Request a Mentor

Get more enjoyment out of your philatelic activities with the APS Mentor Service. This member-only service invites you to tap into the talent and experience of other APS members. Mentors will help you with your questions about collecting skills, the material you collect, and ways in which you can find resources to help you in your collecting pursuits.

If you have questions in any of these areas, please print the Mentor Request Form and submit it along with $2.00 mint postage, to the
APS Education Department, 100 Match Factory Place, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
We will match you with a volunteer APS Mentor.

Become a Mentor

Many APS members have asked for help. Their needs have included such things as valuing a collection, cataloguing difficult U.S. material, preserving philatelic material, and answering general questions about a particular area of the hobby.

If you are an APS member and would like to contribute to the future of the hobby by encouraging and assisting other members, please review the "Mentor Guidelines" outlined below and complete the Become a Mentor Form.

Mentor Guidelines:
  1. The APS is the facilitating agent between the APS member who needs help and a more experienced APS member who has offered to serve as a mentor. It cannot be held responsible for the mentor’s advice.
  2. Contact between the APS members participating in the Mentor Program will not be supervised. Both the requestor and the APS Mentor are expected to conduct themselves within the APS Code of Ethics.
  3. The Mentor Program is not intended as an opportunity for commercial philatelic transactions.
  4. Statistical records only will be kept on the Program. Contacts between the requestor and the APS Mentor will not be supervised.
  5. APS Mentors are not expected to do difficult identification or expertizing.
